Couple disclaimers

1.) SO sorry for vertical cam.

2.) Camera was shaky due to me holding my hyper / excited dog and from laughing

So I took my dog to the park Saturday and this lady in a Liberty 4x4 apparently did not know how to activate the 4wd and was severely struggling. All we could do was laugh.

...it took her at least 15 minutes to get out of the parking lot (about 40 ft)

Bonus video of the dogs running (after a nearly 6 mile walk). Mine is the Aussie shepherd running around...her name is Maizy (thus me yelling for her)...and so is my dad in the background

I can't be the only one that just assumed the cheap Jeep was FWD, can I?
Also, I can't be the only one hoping your hyper dog was going to make an appearance, can I?

Clearly it's bad design on Jeeps part, I guess they have to redesign the entire system to accommodate the lowest common denominator. Maybe a huge switch on the dash that blinks, or maybe strobe light arrows pointing to it.

I love it when stuff like this happens since people say they must have a 4WD/AWD car in the winter. Plus yay happy dogs!

Did you tell her how to engage 4WD?

That's a Jeep Liberty not a Patriot/Compass

The Liberty felt basically like Jeep Wrangler with a fixed hardtop on the inside. I know because we owned one.

The 3.7L V6 is a pain in the ass but has a good amount of torque, they are light as a feather though, so 4x4 is 100% needed for light snow, nothing holding those tires down haha.

Liberty was a true and legit 4x4 system. Surprisingly capable in the correct setup, but light as a feather. We owned one for a while, 3.7L V6 has a lot of torque but nothing holds down those wheels with how light it is. 4x4 was needed in even light snow like this.

They basically feel like fixed hard top Wranglers.

(also that woman is an idiot, this was my wife's first 4x4 and she woulda been out of there in a second or two).

The 1st gen Liberty was RWD with one of two truck-based 4wd system. So, you have either the 2H / 4H-locked / 4L-locked options, or 2H / 4H-unlocked / 4H-locked / 4L-locked options.

I don't see the front wheel spinning, which seems to point to it not having 4wd engaged. It could also be in the 4H-unlocked mode if so equipped. Can't tell the year either, as they didn't add traction control until 2005 if I remember right. So, it could be in a 4wd mode with the opposite side wheel spinning.

Haha yup! I was trying to post a picture but my dads winter car is the same Liberty but w/ chunkier tires on them. We put it into 4wd before we hit the parking lot and had zero issues. Definitely a little torque-y engine, but man it can get get scary changing lanes when there's snow on the ground.

oh yeah, we always felt that thing was just about to bounce the hell away.

Traded it in for a Jeep Commander.

Much more solid feeling ride.

A buddy of mine I camp with once a year has this one, it's pretty badass:

those are actually 4 rectangular lights up on the roof, they're flipped back for some odd reason.
